At the Digital for Life Festival held across two weekends at VivoCity and Heartbeat@Bedok, IMDA sought a meaningful way to engage the public on healthy digital habits. The festival attracted a wide range of visitors, from youths and young adults to seniors, and was graced by President Tharman and several Members of Parliament. To support the festival’s mission, Mashwire was commissioned to conceptualise and develop an interactive digital kiosk experience that could educate, engage, and entertain.
Challenge
The activation needed to deliver clear messages on digital well-being while remaining simple, intuitive, and enjoyable for different age groups. It also had to perform reliably in a high-traffic environment where users would engage quickly and repeatedly.
Our Solution: A Game Designed for Accessibility and Impact
Mashwire developed a catch-and-collect style game, where players control a basket at the bottom of the screen to catch positive digital behaviour items while avoiding negative or risky ones. A scoring system provides immediate feedback, reinforcing healthy digital habits through play.
To ensure accessibility, the experience was available in four languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil. This allowed a wide demographic, including seniors who prefer native-language instructions, to engage comfortably and confidently.
The team handled the experience from end to end. This included mapping the user journey, creating wireframes, designing clear and friendly visuals, building intuitive gameplay logic, and running multiple rounds of reliability testing to prepare the kiosk for long festival hours. Across the festival, the kiosk recorded thousands of plays, showing strong interest and repeat participation.
Impact
The activation successfully:
Attracted a broad demographic of youths, young adults and seniors
Encouraged longer engagement through simple, replayable gameplay
Reinforced IMDA’s Digital for Life messages through hands-on learning
Made digital literacy more relatable and easy to understand
Provided measurable engagement insights for future planning
Mashwire’s Role
Mashwire’s integrated Creative, Tech and Marketing teams worked together to deliver the full development cycle. This included UX design, interface development, technical build, system testing, on-site setup and real-time optimisation during event days. The result was a robust and intuitive interactive experience that blended education with play, customised for a fast-moving public festival environment.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how interactive kiosks can transform educational topics into memorable experiences. By combining playful design with purposeful messaging, digital literacy becomes something visitors can understand, interact with and remember.
At Mashwire, we create digital experiences that inspire participation and strengthen connection.
